Located in modern-day Turkey, Mount Ararat has a huge significance in the history of mankind. It is believed that the mountaintop was the only place that remained dry and unaffected by the devastating flood and storm that befell on Earth under God’s wrath. That’s why God himself led Noah, his family, and the animals he saved during the journey to this dry land once the flood and storm passed away. For forty days, Noah remained in his ark, without emerging from the haven. His self-sacrificial actions and love for all lives impressed God to an extent where he reached an agreement with Noah. It is believed that Mount Ararat was the witness of the covenant formed between the Lord and Noah, where he agreed never to create any devastating flood on the Earth and even put his rainbow as the symbol of a fresh beginning.

In Genesis, a strong reference to the word “Zion” is present. It represents the holy and heavenly city of Jerusalem which was the dwelling place of God’s people. According to the historical references, Mount Zion was reclaimed under the guidance of King David from the clutches of Jebusites. Later on, Solomon, his son erected the famous Temple of the Lord on the mountaintop in honor of the Almighty. Additionally, the temple is believed to serve as the safe place for the Ark of the Covenant.

Also known as Jabal Musa, Mount Sinai in Egypt is considered to be one of the places where the famous group of Moses received the Ten Commandments. During their stay, Moses encountered his Almighty amongst the burning bushes of the-then Mt. Horeb. It is here where God commanded them to free his people from slavery and lead them out of Egypt to a land that was promised to Abraham. Being obedient disciples, Moses followed the command and freed the people from a live of cruelty and slavery. After completing the task, they ascended Mt. Sinai where they further received the Ten Commandments, which are believed to be written with God’s own finger.

One of the most important mountains referenced in the Bible is that of Mount Carmel. It is the place where God reclaimed the faith of His Chosen People. According to history, people have forsaken their belief in the Almighty and chose to worship pagan deities. It is then Prophet Elijan ascended Mount Carmel and brought down a fire that consumed all the offerings people gave to the pagan deities. On the other hand, he also started a huge rainfall to provide relief from long-term famine and drought. When fire and rain fell together, people turned their back on Baal and rejoiced in their restored faith in the spiritual power of the Almighty.

Located in Galilee, Mount Tabor witnessed the transformative figurine of Jesus Christ when he revealed his true form in front of his three most favored disciples, namely Peter, John, and James. The place where he revealed his glory was later on dedicated for the construction of the Church of Transfiguration for commemorating the enigmatic event that transpired on the mountaintop. It is believed that after the transformation into his glorify form, Jesus gave the news of his impending death to Elijah and Moses. Also, his Apostles believed that Jesus was the Messiah for whom they had waited to appear for prolonged years.

Dating back to 2000 years ago, the Mount of the Beatitudes holds immense significance in Christianity’s history. It is believed that the mountaintop witnessed Jesus giving his sermon to his people, including sorrow for sins committed, purity of the heart, and meekness. On top of the Korazim Plateau stands the famous Church of the Beatitudes, overlooking the humongous Sea of Galilee.

Last but not least, we have the Mount of Olives where Christ pleaded to his Father prior to the turning events of his arrest, torture, and crucifixion. The Garden of Gethsemane was constructed later on to commemorate Christ’s prayers and self-discipline that paved the way for redemption. It is also believed that the Mount of Olives was also the final place where Jesus went to meet his Father in his true glorious form after his great Resurrection. When his disciples ascended the garden on the mountaintop, they witnessed Jesus’s spirit disappearing into the clouds.
